From my personal experience, a chiropractor wasnt the best choice for me, during my severe stages of colitis. But, I do think alternative therapy like body work and acupuncture may of some help. Good for you though Beachlife! :)
Before I knew anything about
colitis, before I even knew what the hell I had last year, I had seen a chiropractor and had gotten a blood prick test done. My finger was pricked and my red blood cells were to be found on the computer screen. A lot of negatives were found in that test, indicating stress, diet, and digestion issues, and this was before we even knew what I had wrong with me.
Then I did a MyoVision Static Graphic test, which showed the levels of muscle tension in my spine. The specialist was surprised I wasn't coming in to her office complaining of back problems lol. When I was handed a key, it made some sense to me:

From that link, you can pinpoint your possible effects of malfunction (breathing issues, digestive problems, etc) and attribute it to the nerves its controlled by and what vertebrae in your spine is out of whack, causing these problems.
It was very interesting! But of all the research I've done and the things I've learned about
chronic disease in the past year, I haven't come across any studies indicating the spine as a factor in disease.
