Somedude - wow. thanks for the stereotype on yoga teachers. Seems every doctor I talk to, every medical journal I read about Crohn's/UC recommends Yoga for US(us being those of us with gut issues). I took that to heart and became a teacher. I should tell you about the first class I took, I almost walked out, it was a joke, I thought how ridiculous it was, how silly I looked, how weird it was. But then when layed my body to rest that night, I started to feel the affects. And it continued when I awoke the next day. And this was from a general class at a nationwide gym. At first I did yoga to solely address my UC, it's become a lot more than that, I'd recommend it to everyone. Everyone who wants to try it. If you think it's not going to work, guess what , it won't work. Yoga Teachers come from all walks of life , some hard core hippy, some hard core workout fitness types, some lovey dovey, some straight, some gay, some men, some woman, some old, some young, there are all kinds, just like any other profession. Lawyers focus is on law and their clients, Yoga teachers focus is on the mind and body, and ultimately their students. We are in service of them for a better life, less anxiety, more flexibility, more clarity, be more comfortable in who they are , with whatever condition they have. The focus really depends on who the student is, and what their goals are.
fruitgirl - great point, as I thought of a reply that did cross my mind, a child born with a condition, and to be honest, I'm not yet smart enough how to reply properly. I did learn something about how a top notch coach communicated with a guy in a wheelchair with MS, and it was amazing, the guy with MS came out of that short conversation SO ALIVE. I don't have time to write about that right now.
soystud - I was curious your thoughts, and everyone's thoughts really. Outside of the yoga community(sorry somedude!), I've learned that phrase elsewhere, a few times now, , and it really resonated with me. For me, and perhaps most of us. We were born whole perfect and complete. And then something happened, put us in a funk, some got healthy again, some got colitis, some had their colon removed. For me it's returning myself, and others, back to whole perfect and complete. It's balance though, like anything in self development, we're perfect right now, yet at the same time on a quest to learn more, heal more, love more. Look at kids, they don't have fear, fear of being themselves, fear of using their real names, their real age, what mommy and daddy are doing, wrong or right. they are honest, they haven't been hurt. Heck look at them learn to walk. They are crawling around and one day attempt to walk and BAM, fall down, maybe a scraped knee, maybe a bruised forehead, but they get right back up and learn how to walk. Can you imagine trying to learn to walk today if we only knew how to crawl, wow would that be a challenge!! that's why I say what I say. I'm seeing a therapist right now for something else. And he's walking me through the process of owning, of becoming comfortable with that thing, essentially being whole perfect and complete even though I have somthing going on. I believe the same is in UC. For once we own it, once we believe we are not being a burden on ourselves, on others, the pain slowly goes away. I've seen it happen in myself, and others.
side note: boy I wonder if everyone would be so candid if the usernames were not anonymous here, if first and last names were used....anyway, I digressed...
I do see more good in this world, I see the possibility of a cure, for everyone, soystud, fruitgirl, somedude, quincy, everyone. But we have to want it. We have to want it more than anything else. Yes I know placebo's work(I've read up to 30% effectiveness), but for change to occur, we have to take action for that change. Anyway, I know I'm preaching to the choir with you guys, just wish one wouldn't jump on another's ideas so fast. I spoke to a girl on Sunday who cured her Ulcerative Colitis from Chiro. She was on Prednisone. I'm sure we can all sympathise with her. She's an actress in LA, and now, with full 100% health, able to follow her dreams. Isn't that AMAZING? i know I'm amazed. In the past month I've spoken to I think 5 people who have cured their IBD, no more meds, each did a different modality. Does that mean it works for all, no, but it does mean it works. Really...we're all here for the same thing. Aren't we. I'm not to condem you, I'm here to support you. there's no space for judgement, criticism or ridicule - perhaps that's how we got here in the first place. Studies do show anger leads to inflammation. I'm here to support each and every one of you in whatever goals you have for yourself.
