I'm relatively new with uc so thought I would tell my story.
I had a colonoscopy at the insistence of my doctor in February because of my age. I'm now 54 years old. Nothing was found to be wrong and was told to return in 10 years.
Two weeks later diarrhea starts and 4 weeks later the bleeding starts. Doctor treats me for hemmorroids since I've had them for years. Nothing helps. Illness progresses to bathroom visits hourly which is when I was hospitalized in late May. Stayed there for 12 days and put on prednisone, salafalk and enemas. Another colosocopy was done and advised severe colon damage with lots of ulcers. Improved to 4 bathroom visits/day and released from hospital.
Spent the next couple of months in bed slowly improving and getting energy back. Was on azathiprine for a while but unable to tolerate the nausea so removed off it. Weaned off prednisone in August. I've had no bleeding or diarrhea since early July.
Now in mid October I'm back to normal bathroom visits once/day and still trying to get energy back. I'm on 4 500mg Salafalk pills morning and again in evening which are working for me.
I've been off work since all of this started and hope to return by Christmas if energy is back to normal. I'm a pilot so need to quite healthy before I will pass the medical again.
Just wondering if any of you have had similar experiences to me and how long it took to get back to feeling normal again.
Thanks
Glenn
