Hello. This is not really about UC but I'm just wondering what you think.
I currently reside in Japan and was seeing the same GI for about 2 years. He then had to refer me to a surgeon so that I can get a total colectomy. Basically, I saw my GI on average every 2 weeks. He would set up the appointments and on those days I'd see him, waiting time at worst would be an hour and not more. He wasn't particularly an UC specialist but because he's a GI he pretty much knew what he was doing. Even if I ended up getting a flu from the use of steroids, he would treat me. This was at a big hospital and he was, of course, in the gastro department.
So then, I was referred to a surgeon at a different hospital. This hospital is different in that it has an IBD department only for Chron's and UC patients. There are about 5 doctors in that department but unless it's about surgery or a colonoscopy you can't get an appointment and you also can't choose which doctor you want to be seen by. So even if you're sick, you just have to go to the hospital and be seen by whoever is available, so it can be that you see a different doctor each time and waiting time is about 2-3 hours long each time.
This is a weird question, but I'm just wondering which doctor you'd prefer - the one I described in the first paragraph or the latter. Any comments would be appreciated :)
