Second opinion - FT related with some Asacal info

I don't have any real meaningful info to pass along but thought I'd share my experience with a new doctor this week. I recently visited Dr Swaroop at the UT Southwestern Comprehensive Crohns and Colitis Program in Dallas. Biggest take away was he absolutely recommends the fecal transplant procedure. They offer a protocol for in home application but obviously they do not perform the procedure. He told me they tracked 45 patients that self administered the FT with over 50% reporting improved symptoms. Of course, results are hard to completely rely on given the uncontrolled environment of each individual application. But it was reassuring to hear a doctor talk positively about the potential. He said he beilives controlled FT in a hospital environment (once studied/approved) or some pharma substitute material/equivalent will likely be the standard of care for IBD within 5-10 years. Anyway, thought I'd pass this along.

Also, he told me Asacal HD doesn't actually deliver the dosage it claims as the drug was pushed to market simply to protect market share from competing drugs. He said you're better off taking more of the regular Asacal pills. Just passing this along.

We didn't really talk about Lialda as I have never taken it. He was spouting off pharma stats like crazy though and he was a little difficult to understand in the first place so hell, maybe he did mention it and just didn't comprehend.

One more note of interest. He said their study implied female to male FT donors resulted in fewer positive responses so he recommends male patients seek male donors.
