I was diag. with left sided a year ago and I take 3 balsalizide 2x a day and an mesalmine every other day or so and was basically symptom free!

Now, all of a sudden even when I do the mesalimine enemas evevery night, I am flaring, cramps and bloody.  Like fresh blood, really red. 

Am I flaring or is my condition getting much worse?  Thoughts?  Is this normal?

Definitely a flare. You need to stop the blood so I'd say give your GI a call since it seems the enemas you're using now aren't working. Losing too much blood is not good and you could start becoming anemic. The brighter the blood the more it's coming from the end (rectum). Hope you're able to stop the blood.

It can be normal for a flare to have cramps and bright red blood.
Definitely call your doc and see what else you can do to stop it.

Thank you.  I wonder too if it is because I have been eating grapes, cabbage and drinking lactose free milk.  Maybe I need to leave those foods and get back to completely dairy free. 

My doctor P*sses me off, so I am not calling unless I have to.  He basically throws medicine at me and leaves me to fend for myself.

I hear dairy can cause issues for some people so it may be worth a try..however I wouldn't let things go too long. I think of colitis as a fire that you need to extinguish before it gets out of control. It may be you need to add a steroid supp or enema for a while and than can transition back to Rowasa enemas. Also your doc may want you to increase your pills to 9 a day which I believe is the flair dosage.

Even though I use Rowasa nightly (for a very long time now) I still need to add in a steroid supp maybe 1X/week or so.

Thank you!  I wondered about dosage.  I will go maybe a week or two tops and see if the diet changes things and continue to do the mesalamine (sp) every night to see if that helps. 

if not, then I will call HIM!  Ugh.  I actually found another GI I was considering for a second opinion.  I don't know why I always feel so guilty about doing that, asking for a second opinion should be okay!

You could even do an enema again in the morning if you are able. Don't feel bad for wanting a second opinion. If you don't have the right fit with your GI its time to find another...remember YOU pay him.

grapes and cabbage doesn't sound good. I would lay off them and see what happens.

I am gonna throw in a second one this weekend cause it is easy to lay around for q bit! Yeah def, gonna lay off those foods too, thanks you guys, will keep you posted!

You could try increaing the enemas to every night and add a Canasa in the morning if necessary.
