Poops don't smell...

Has anyone else noticed this with UC? As long as my diet stays fairly constant, it seems like there is no odor.

To me, this seems good and bad. I could see it occurring because UC sufferers use the bathroom more frequently so there's less time for the waste to sit around in the colon.

On the other hand, I wonder if it is a sign that the body is less efficient at processing nutrients?

Yeah, same here. I mean, it still smells for me, but not even close as before. I'm curious of the answer also.

When I had bloody diarrhea mine smelled pretty bad but now that I usually have formed stools and no blood mine don't smell much either.

Yes mine really does not smell much at all,while my wife with a normal colon has what a normal human should smell like. I believe the immune system has killed off many different types of bacteria and we do not have the proper diversity. I will say if I have the runs and do a complete dump at the end it will smell quite foul.  Also the iron eating bacteria probably out compete others,and have taken over.

I've noticed this too, I agree with OM if what he's saying is that we have messed up gut bacteria.

I've got a bug of sorts at the moment so I am noticing a slight odor now, but it's not the normal poop odor.

As long as my poop is formed and normalish looking, it doesn't smell either. Seems to me like this should be a good thing. I'm eating healthier than I EVER was before, even when I thought I used to eat a pretty healthy diet, so I have been thinking that's why. Certainly seems logical that it has something to do with the bacteria, but also how well digested the food is, how long it's been in you, probably lots of different factors.

Huh, I thought I was the only one who's poop don't smell (LOL) I figure for me it's because it doesn't stay in me long enough to collect a smell, just long enough to come out formed with no smell...during my periods though, they do smell and so does any gas I get during that time of the month...makes me sick LOL!

the low odor is because of low gut microbes. they are 50% the dry mass of healthy stool. if you take enough probiotics, the odor comes back

I noticed this for a long time before I had my colon out, and for several weeks after. My surgeon has a nutritionist working for him, who insisted that I have Activia yogurt every day. Smell of poop came back in a couple more weeks. Must have re-established gut bacteria.
