So, I was bleeding very heavily and then went NPO for a sigmoidoscopy. The bleeding stopped, but the scope showed severe inflamation due to UC as I have stated before. They put me on a predinsone taper and I am on day 3 of the 30 mg. I had no blood after going NPO which was before starting the steroids, didn't see blodd when was on the 40 mg, but all of a sudden last night I began seeing traces of blood appear again. If the blood would have been there before the steroids I might have thought it was due to the taper down, but the bleeding stopped before I started the predinsone. I'm confused...... Any thoughts?

How long between the NPO and the pred? It's possible the effects of the NPO just lasted a little while and the bleeding would have come back anyway but was kept away by the 40mg pred. So it could still be from the taper.

Also, how long were you at 40mgs? It's also possible that the pred just hasn't had long enough to fully kick in yet, and the bleeding is just now coming back from the nice effects of the NPO. Unless there was anything else in your life/diet that changed?

For me it sometimes took up to three weeks at 40 mgs for bleeding to stop.

3 days in between the NPO and the predinsone. I was on 40 mg for 5 days and am scheduled to taper down by 10 every 5 days. Its strange. It seems like the more solidish I get in bms, (they are never solid mind you) the more blood. The more watery I am, the less blood I see. But maybe that's common. I'm so new to all of this. The only  thing else that changed is my dr encouraged me to start teating a little bit more by mouth to supplement the tube feeding I am on since I was starting to drop weight.
