I'm a little confused about one thing and wondered if I was alone.

I've been in remission a few months now - god its nice. (sorry) but anyway, a heavy heavy weekend has lead to me catching a cold so I'm a little under the weather and bingo, stomach hurts and bleeding. Nothing serious but I was wondering, why do I take azathioprine to lower my immune system yet get symptoms when I'm run down?!

Presume it'll all ease off when I get well again, and I'll use some enema's later to squash it down. But as I'm bored at my desk I wondered if anybody else has this happen.

I don't think it's the Aza and being run down that you get symptoms. It can be just the cold you have. Sometimes when we get sick, it triggers the immune system (or confuses it) and it attacks everything and anything. It's not unheard of to start a flare when getting sick.

I've been lucky, normally when I get sick my Uc actually behaves itself; like it gives my immune system something else to attack besides my poor ole colon.

Yes, I agree with Red_34. My rheumatologist pointed this same thing out to me this summer - I got a mild viral infection, and then my hands started hurting and I had diarrhea and belly pain for a few days. Weird and annoying.

Yep I've had a stupid cold with a cough for almost two weeks and I've had increased bm's luckily no blood though. Whats worse is I have a day where I go 3-4 times and then get constipated which I hate more.

I think mines because I had my flu jab thursday and then gloated about it!

Could be a combo of it all, but the fact that you're bleeding means things are pretty fragile in there.

Maybe consider to up the Pentasa enemas and see if that will get you back on track quicker.

I hope you get over the cold soon...they're crappy to deal with!

I always notice blood before anything else, yet its sometimes the first to go.

but yup, I'll dig out on of the ghastly enemas tonight, have a box kicking about somewhere. that and lots of mushed up veg. whenever im slightly flaring i crave mashed sweet potato. I have no idea why, if it's really bad steak, but thats a little more obvious.

I just had a cold last week and after having normal BMs for quite some time started having not so normal ones after the cold started. Cold is gone now but BMs not back to normal (no blood for me though but I don't get blood often). Hopefully once your cold is completely gone your body will settle down a bit and things should get back to normal.
