blood test results what do you think?

I went to the ER over the weekend as I was concerned about extreme tiredness and nausea which would not go away. I thought it was a virus...still not sure, but these were by test results ( I only put in those results which seem to stand out). PS I did take an iron tablet in the morning.

Ferritin 15ug LOW
MCH 34.0pg HI
RCC 3.58 X 10 LOW
Iron 56umo HI
Transferrin Satn 89% HI
MCHC 357g/L HI
PCV 0.341L/L LOW
Vit B12 880pmo HI

What does all of this represent...am I anaemic? I feel like I am, but they interpreted it as normal???

You can google or bing your test result categories and get explanations and "normal" ranges.

Getting more info about each test result will give you discussion points to bring up when you see your Dr.

I actually did google this information and it did come up that I am low in iron/anaemic, but som e of the information is conflicting. The ER basically said eveything was ok....confusing?

I am scheduled for my actual blood test, in about a week's time. I am not sure if the ER will pass on these results to my specialist (he actually works in this hospital).

I still feel weak...so I am guessing that I am low in iron, but I just wanted to be able to interpret the results a bit better. Here in Australia, we the patients dont normally get access to our own results. I actually opened the letter the hospital prepared for my GP.

What's your hemoglobin and hematocrit? That's more important than some of the others.

My HB is 122 (normal range for females is 120-150). Just normal.

My hematocrit (also knwon as PCV) is 0.341 LOW (normal range for females is 0.40 - 1) LOW.

I feel like crap. My bowels are behaving themselves, so I am worried it is from the Imuran???

I would have expected low PVC and low RCC to go with lower Feritin/Iron saturation. They do seem to contradict. It is possible RCC is low because of very recent bleeding, and over time saturation would also fall.

Imuran can also cause fatigue that is unrelated to anemia.

Another doc in the same hospital will generally be able to access you recent blood work from the hospital. But, I would ask for printed copies of your results (if you do not already have them) and bring them to the visit with the new guy. If nothing else, ask them to explain - you are paying them after all.

Lets us know how it goes. Perhaps ask your doctor if you can take any supplements to increase these levels

Hope you feel better or at least found a reason for your fatigue. Your numbers don't seem low enough into the anemia range to be the explanation--bumping them up would be a good thing but might not be the only answer.

Also it would be interesting to repeat the tests in a few months to look for changes.
