6mp vs Imuran

If 6mp stops working for you will your doctor try to put you on Imuran? I know they are just about the same thing but may work differently? Any thoughts?

Imuran did not work for me. However, I have been able to tolerate 6mp. Most people say they are the same but it works differently for me.

Ditto as I need help. The same thing happened to me. I was violently ill on Imuran, but able to tolerate 6MP except I am catching lots of viruses lately.

Imuran and 6mp are the same med, however Imuran is broken down into 6mp in the liver. Some people do better with that "break down" and others don't need it. The only way to know if you can tolerate one or the other is to try. However, most doctors won't do that. The majority of them think that if you can't tolerate one or if it doesn't work, then the other won't but sometimes that's not the case.
