very small study (16 people) with uc treated with heparin
That is a really interesting study. I find blood thinners while bleeding to be counter-intuitive.
I guess this explains it :

Heparin in addition to its anticoagulant activity, has a wide range of potentially anti-inflammatory effects.
Heparin is really strange stuff. I was doing the take home shots sub-q into the belly but would immediately go numb from head to toe. This began with the 'training' shot at the hospital. They never saw this reaction before so I would lie down for 30 minutes scared out of my wits that the paralysis was going to expand beyond the right arm. This caused them to keep me for another day.
Ischemic colitis is also interesting. The last flare over the summer was pretty bad and my stomach became irritated if I merely touched the skin. None of the doctors/staff had heard of this.
