Flare due to MRI

Hey all, been away for a month trying to catch up from the scheduling of all the doctor & treatment appointments... Daughter is/was finally down to 3-4 bowel movements a day, minimal cramping, and finally starting the prednisone tapering (very slowly).

Went for an MRI last night and she started to flare up after 2 cups of the solution... Almost had to stop the MRI because she was cramping so much. Since the test ended at 10pm last night she has gone 6 times with bad cramping. Anyone else have this reaction? Does it go away quickly? Doc said to stop tapering if symptoms come back. Really want her to be able to get off the prednisone!

How is she doing on the Remicade?

I never had an MRI done so I'm not sure how the solution will affect the colon.

Do you have results from the MRI yet?

I hope she's getting better soon.

Oh that contrast is THE DEVIL! Every time I have that, I get massive D for a few days but than I get better once its out of my system. I hope your DD feels better soon and that the contrast doesn't cause her to get worse :(

i am the same as Red with the horrible diarrhea after the contrast drink. i've never been able to drink the whole thing because it makes me vomit, too.

I had a MRI with contrast while in remission, I don't remember having any problems from the procedure. I hate to hear that she's having trouble. What dose of pred is she on and have you tried 6mp? I got off a LONG course of pred with 6mp, i have also been able to maintain a pretty good remission. We have a handful of parents with young daughters on this board, if you reach out, you may get some response from them. What medications have you tried?

MRI contrast will cause runs in normal people..and, depending on what "type" of UC you have, may affect you..it did me when I had the MRI done..felt like i was going through a prep for colonoscopy.
