UC & Birth Control

Wondering if any women have experienced flare ups after stopping birth control pills. I have been in remission for about 2 years without flares, however after going off of the pill I am experiencing symptoms again. I was on BC for 6+ years. Any thoughts?

not much help but I'm not surprised that a hormone flucuation would trigger a flare. Many women experience a flare with their period

I'm not a woman but have dealt now with 2 different autoimmune diseases over the span of 22 years. I have done a lot of research in those 22 years. In general more women than men get autoimmune diseases, although I don't think that particular stat holds up for UC. Female hormones have been linked to autoimmune diseases and the pill obviously effects hormone levels. It is very possible that the change in hormone levels is effecting you.

i was actually diagnosed with uc about 1.5 months after going off the pill & i had been on it for about 8 years. i do suspect that had something to do it. went back on the pill recently & while i wouldn't say i feel much better, i certainly don't feel any worse either.
