OT: Anyone on Wellbutrin??

Little background....I have gained about 20-25 pounds in last 18 months. Finally hit me it could be the lexapro (hmmm wish I would of thought of that earlier!). Saw my primary today for something unrelated and we discussed my weight gain. She agrees is probably lexapro so she switched me to wellbutrin. Anyone had any experience w/ that one? I wish I could be off an anti-depressent but can't right now. I tried 3 weeks w/out the lexapro and I was miserable.

That's exactly what doctor said! She said is a love or hate med. I see her in a month to follow up. Let's see I got the generic....."bupropion hcl xl 150mg" is what label says. I was on 10mg lexapro before. She said I may need a combo of small dose of lexapro and the wellbutrin.

Welbutrin didnt agree with me, but my Hubby takes it no problem. I take Zoloft.

I was on Lexapro 10 mg, and had weight gain, then asked for Wellbutrin to counter the "laziness" I felt on Lexapro and hopefully lose some weight. Got a higher energy, but I don't believe it led to weight loss.

When I was on Wellbutrin alone, it led to a lot of weight loss.
But it's not appropriate for me to be on Wellbutrin alone now. So I'm just on Lexapro.

For me, I'm stuck with the extra weight I get on Lexapro. And now I'm doing Green (veggie/fruit) smoothies, which is giving me the high energy so as soon as that kicked in I dropped the Wellbutrin and now the only antidepressant I'm taking is Lexapro. (I take Lamictal as a mood stabilizer for bipolar which is different than an antidepressant. Lamictal has no weight effect)

Hope this is illuminating in some way.

Don't know much about antidepressants but I have heard that Wellbutrin is one of the few that doesn't kill your sex drive. And if you search the forum you will find many threads about Wellbutrin actually helping with IBD. But of course everyone is different and not everyone gives it good reviews.

I remember someone (NotSoSicklyGirl?) saying that the antidepressant she was using actually helped her to maintain remission. But I forgot what antidepressant she was using.

Yes I definitely had the killed sex drive on lexapro. Zip, zero, nada.

I use welbutrin. Lexapro is what really helps my mood but it causes me to flare and have a constant period! (all ssri's do it to me ) so welbutrin is sort of half way compared to the lexapro and I have to take 300mg. I started on 150 and it actually made me more anxious. One day I decided to try (after a suggestion from DH!) to take another pill and it helped soooo much. Did a lot of experimenting with dosage and the lower dose definitely causes anxiety in me. welbutrin does give me more energy. The lexapro gave me a "lighter mood" which also made me feel more energetic but they are 2 different forms of energy. SSRI's did kill my sex drive and the wellbutrin does not. I have lost weight since being on welbutrin but I was eating less as soon as I started trying anti-depressants. But all the SSRI's eventually caused a flare which lead to pred and weight gain with that. So for 6 months it was up and down so I attribute a lot of the weight loss to stabilizing my UC and getting off the pred. So like everyone else has said, you just have to try it. I will say that when I stopped the SSRI's i had terrible withdraws and I never took one more than 8 weeks so I can't imagine coming off it after a long period of time so definitely give your body time to adjust to the change before you decide if it working or not. A few months may be necessary
