If you are on imuran arent you supposed to not take a flu shot? Just curious if anyone on imuran has had the flu and if so, how bad was it?
The flu is running rampant in my small town and I am determined not to get it!

The flu vaccine is a dead virus. We are not supposed to get the live virus (nasal). I've had a flu shot every year, while on 6mp and Remicade, with no issue whatsoever other than a sore arm.

Yup, you can get the "dead" version of the flu shot. I had it last year while on Imuran. I think the technical term is "attenuated vaccine"

The shot is also different this year. It's almost not really a shot at all anymore. Extremely easy.

Ask your doctor. I just started IMURAN this week, but had my flu shot 2 months ago. My husband finally got his yesterday, but not the nasal, as that would be bad for me. I did have my monthly allergy shots yesterday, and the doc said that was fine. I think, as stated above, that the "dead" shot would be ok. Having the flu while on imuran would be very bad, I suspect.

Attenuated viruses are actually those that are still live, but are less virulent.  The nasal mist flu vaccine is a live attenuated virus, and the flu shot is a dead virus.

bottom line: dead virus is recommended for anyone on immune suppressors or with a compromised immune system
