Bananagirl...I did 4 loading doses of humira at my GI's office. The PA used that as on opportunity to teach me how to use the pens. They are very easy to use. You can do them in your upper thigh or tummy. I preferred my legs.
You will keep them in the fridge at your house. Make sure to set them out about
20-30 minutes before you inject. Takes the sting out of. I have given myself a zillion shots so this really isn't bad.
Hope it works for you guys!

I just got my TB shot done, no problem and in 48 I will have it checked. Once this is in to my doc they order my pens. I want to do this now, I'm sick of pooing my pants, fear of a place that only has one bathroom, I want fricken remission for the first time in 7 years. I'm praying for all of us and I too, am so glad we doing it all around the same time to share stories!

Bananagirl, No my doc said I didn't have to have either. I've never had either of them anyways in my whole life. But last year I did get pneumonia and that sucked big time! I know what they mean tho becuz this med may bring down your immune system. When I was on pred last year, I got pneumonia two/three months after starting!

Did you do the scratch tb test? I have one every year but it is done via blood work. However this time I'm in a methotrexate study. I had to have a chest x ray to triple confirm no TB.
Hope you guys get to feeling better soon! I sure hope I do too. I'm going to talk to my GI soon about
giving cimzia a try. Not getting any relief from the mtx.

I never got any shots!! Just TB. Ive felt all alone with the Humira. I guess I wont be all alone anymore. Have been fighting all the negitivity by myself. Not that anyone has to join me.
Hope you all do well and stay healthy!!!! Just to let you know the shots are a peice of cake. I made myself crazy over the thought of doing them. Took a valium when I went to do loading dose at GI's office ,was so out of it didnt rem had to let them do the second part too. Whata baby I was.

faith, the shots are nerveracking for me. my aunt comes over every week to give me my b-12. i am hoping they are easier and not syringes. the syringes i keep getting from the pharmacy are SOO dull and i can feel the whole shot (my aunt is very slow at administering which doesn't help haha).
how long do you stay at the office the first time? do you just get 4 shots in your leg and then leave or do they monitor you?

Had 2 in the thigh and 2 in the stomach. Next 2 were in the thighs. They are pens. Just take them out of frig 1/2 hr before. Really no big deal. Don't fret. I do it weekly now. Works much better then every 2 weeks. I dont think of everything bad.I'm thinking positive. I feel good which is most important. Havent felt this good in years:) They monitor me all the time .

Faithmac, please keep telling us how you are doing? I had my TB test done yesterday, it gets read tomorrow by the nurse then I'll be all set for Humira. So you're in remission right? Formed poops, no urgency and Humira was you're turning point right?

it just has to work for us, linda! i am so tired of waking up at night to go poop. it's exhausting.
i was talking to my GI on monday and she said she thinks i'd do really well with a j-pouch since i'm already used to going potty 5-8 times a day. i said "are you kidding me!! i'm not USED to it! i absolutely HATE it! i do not want a surgery where i'd go the same amount as i'm going now!!!"

Hi Joanna,
I'm fricken with you, no surgery! I hate when we don't have positive and motivating GI's! Hey don't be afraid of the shots, to me they sounds so easy. I YOUTUBE and there's a girl who shows you how she does it. I was giving myself my own vit b 12 shots, nothing to it! Grab so fat and punch that sucker in! LOL
You can't even tell I had my TB test!! It's flat and has a red mark, that's it. The nurse said it will be absorb if you are dehydrated and yesterday about
a hour after I got the shot the bump was gone. Not a good sign I guess. So I'm drinking a ton of water and had a little vitalyte this morning. I'm going to drink my iron now, in just water, I don't have juice here at work.

WELL!!!! Every day is different. Maybe not quite remission as I thought. No Blood!!!!!!!No extra pooping!!! Still using rectals ,switching between canasa, mesalmine enemas and nothing. I drink coffee in the morning. Little bit of urgency. I go about
3 times, and that's it for the day. Could be the coffee?
I still need to take Metamucil. Helps bulk it up. I see a difference when I don't use it.
I take it weekly now . They wanted me to do the every 2 for a while before they ok'd the every week. Now that was a big difference. I was a basket case before Humira. Trying everthing! have a draw full of all kinds of stuff.
I dont seem to be dwelling on the DZ like before. I gave up the 8am appts at work . Always afraid I would have a problem. I could live the way it is now . Perfect? Who knows what perfect is !!!!
Yes it was my turning point :)
Humira nurses are very nice if you ever have a medical question. The number is on the box and website. I get a reminder text every Thursday. They also send a free Sharps container when you register online.
Hope you can start soon!

it is such a hassle to get a darn TB test in my town. last year, my mom called the doctor's office close to my house to ask if they could give me the test before starting remicade. they said sure and to come on down. we show up and they said they are out of TB tests and don't know why someone would tell us differently. so we go to a different office and wait about
2 hrs but end up getting one done.
well, my stepdad was taking me today and i said "you know, i'm positive that when we show up at the office for the TB test, they will not have one." he said "your mother just called them 30 minutes ago and they said they did." i said "i know she did, but that doesn't matter. i bet we'll have to go someplace else."
i show up at the doctors office and ask for a TB test. the nurse says "we're all out." i said "well, of course you are, but why does this always happen? do your nurses purposely lie on the phone? i am sick and don't have the energy to be driving around to all these offices looking for a darn TB test."
i ended up going to the bathroom because the office we would have to drive to is 45 minutes away. my stepdad had a word with them (b*tched them out) and when i get out of the bathroom, my stepdad says "they magically found one last TB test." i went back in the office and had it done and the nurse looked all pissed off.
i'm wondering why this office keeps doing this. do they not know how to give TB tests or just hate administering them? it's very odd and i sure won't be going back there for my next one.

What a cluster mess! Sorry you had to go through all that! We have enough of a time with the ride and going to the bathroom and you get there and they act like complete fools!

Hopefully it will be. Did your GI put in a request for your script
yet? My GI's office is not to quick to do things. I dont know if it's a Florida thing. Much faster in New York. Move like snails down here!!! I had to be up there a ss to get them moving on it.

faith, my GI said she can't do the prescript
ion until i get a negative TB test. i still have to get my shots and more bloodwork. i'm putting off the bloodwork because i know i'll need more blood transfusions and i HATE being in the hospital.

bananagirl, I never needed to get any shots. Just the TB. My reg doc is not too keen on the flu shot. GI never suggested it. Everyone around me is getting colds. Knock on wood, I've been good. Was thinking of getting a mask. My massage clients wouldn't be too cool with it. I told the front desk don't book me with anyone that coughs or sneezes! They looked at me like I was nuts! Lol
