My doc has submitted the humira request to my insurance now. I'm getting my tb tests results this afternoon, I can tell by my arm I'm in the clear, you can barely see where they poked me! It's a little purple dot.

I want and need this to work so bad!

I have my Gi appt today. He already warned me about a flu shot, asked about updating my immunizations. I am 40, I just had a t-dap, what else do I need?? My last TB test was 4 years ago, so I know I will have to do that again. I am scared to death to start this stuff, I hope I am worrying for nothing.

Fatih-were you told to stay out of the sun? Also, I live in an area ripe with histo.....and my daughter has a horse, can I still go to the barn with all the dust being kicked up?

Lemonhead, I live in Florida. Nobody said stay out of the sun. I also live in horse country. Near Ocala FL.
Not going to tell you not to worry. I did a lot of that myself. Worrying can make you sick. My colon doesn't do well with anxiety. Try not to worry. You can always go off the meds. My GI thought this to be the safer of the two. Meaning remicade and Humira .
My feeling is I could have kept on going the way I was and maybe colon cancer was something I could get. It's in my family!

It's very dusty where I live. Lots of new construction.besides the cows and the horses . I'm not too concerned with That . Actually never thought of it until you brought it up.

My TB test, negative, My humira will be here on Saturday and my nurse appointment and first injections will be Tuesday at 3pm!! I'm all set to start! WOW it happened fast!

Faith-I went to see my Gi today. I have to get a chest x-ray, had a tb test today. I think he is preparing me for Humira....but he wants me to decide between Humira or 6-mp. Here is my question....if I do the humira and another drug comes out in a year and I decide to try that and it doesn't work, can I go back on the humira?
He gave me an informed consent for Humira as well.
He spoke to me about the vedoluzimab and said it got great results and that would be the best, but the trial is closed....even tried to get me on as a "compassionate treatment" patient. But that didn't work. My thought is to go on the Humira until vedoluzimab is available and then switch over??

Lemonhead, my GI chose Humira over 6MP and Imuran . He said it take too long for 6MP t kick in. So we chose Humira. If you go on Humira and something else comes out that seems better or safer why not change. I would. Unless I don't want to rock the boat. It's really up to you. Whatever you feel comfortable with. We are not married to these meds!!!!!!!

i wanted to get into the vedolizimab trial, too, but it was closed in my town! my friend is in it now but not having good results. she's going in for her 6th infusion and her doctor said if it doesn't kick in by then, then it most likely won't. she still has lots of bms, bleeding, urgency so nothing has changed too much.

lemonhead, like faith said, you aren't married to a drug! if you want to get off of it and change to something else that seems safer, i'd do it, too.

Right now there aren't too many people on Humira for UC. When I went on it it was not approved yet. My GI found a way to get me on it. Now that you guys are going to be taking it we can compare and ask for advice. . The peeps on remicade are always throwing out questions to one another. I had the Humira nurses lol. Try not to be to nervous . Hope the Humira let's you heal. You all deserve it. If something comes along better down the road maybe we will be in a better place at that time with the DZ.

I'm also taking diflucan for any yeast that I may have and metamucil to carry it out. I don't want any fungus among us if I'm doing these shots!

Humira is a monoclonal antibody made completely from human protein, unlike Enbrel (etanercept) which is man-made, and Remicade (infliximab) which is made partly with mouse protein. The fully human aspect of Humira (adalimumab) is expected to lessen the side effects.

Just wanted to share, it's sounds promising.
