I try not to get angry about anything to avoid flaring. So people assume I don't care about anything

Does anyone else have this annoying situation? Coworkers think I am lazy and don't care about anything, and get mad about the fact that I don't get angry when everyone else is flipping out.

Oh I get angry but I try not to worry about things. For me they are two different things. Venting and talking about things that bother me help. Stress and worry make me sick.

UCinGV..Do they really think you're lazy? as in told you so?

I don't work for anyone, but when I'm ticked, i say so.

When others are flipping out, do they ask you anything, vent to you, etc?

i aspire to be constructive with my anger, but for me expressed anger and stress has almost zero correlation with causing flares. if anything when I am flaring, and am a little more prone to anger and stress - not the other way around.

Ironic that you should post this today.  I don't think that anyone thinks that I'm lazy, but today I had to explain to coworkers that it's not that I don't CARE about certain things, it's just that I choose to pick and choose my battles, and I don't have to have my way about everything nor do I have to spearhead everything.  Thus, I tend to avoid the drama.  If it's something really important, I'll certainly voice my opinion or go to bat for someone or something, but I'm avoiding the small stuff and letting others micromanage.  They then proceed to get into a snit, while I probably appear very aloof.  I think they understand though, since they know that I've been battling the UC a bit this past year.  I have taught at my school longer than anyone and am older than my team of teachers (at the ripe old age of 44) so I sometimes call age and seniority and kind of step outside of the petty stuff or the power plays.

Wouldn't you feel better and less stressed to let things out instead of holding it all in? Lol I'm a laid-back person too, but I do get frustrated at work sometimes. I work in retail and pretty much have to be "nice" sometimes when I don't want to be to prevent losing customers! I'm usually happy-go-lucky, but everyone has days!! Some days I want a punching bag, but I try to run everyday in order to clear my mind.

People tend to think you're lazy just because you're sick. It's unfair honestly. Just because I don't do a lot of work doesn't mean anything I have other strengths and I show them. Anyone who truly appreciates you sees them.

lol, that sounds exactly like my situation at work. People think I don't take things seriously because I don't get freaked out over deadlines but the truth is that I can't get worked up or I worry it will get me physically ill. I will probably never get promoted because I not on-edge all of the time. People think we don't have a sense of urgency but I do, I just know that there is no point in getting all worked up, stuff won't get done any faster.

UCinGV, I've been in your situation before I had UC. I think it just depends on the personalities of your co-workers and situations that come up....don't change who you are. Just stick with it. I used to work in a very large public relations agency in the "creative department" where PR executives were coming to me all day long with emergency creative projects for clients. Some execs told me they preferred my personality, which is layed back I've been told, and others wanted me to freak out like they were....I prefer to maintain composure during a crisis. Don't change. They'll get used to it and start coming to you with their problems.
