Heyyyyy! Thats the kind of crappy thinking that will keep you flaring. Is the pred taper not going well? Speaking if pred taper.... I get depressed on it too so its just a stupid side effect. Hope you feel better :)

Andrina: It wasn' too long ago it sounded like you were ready for surgery and then all of sudden you were trying other stuff again. There is only one solution to your problem: Surgery. Just do it. It is the only way you will get your life back and you WILL get your life back. There have been tons of people who have come on here and reported that the surgery gave them their lives back and they were almost mad at themselves for not having done it sooner. It is your time.

Andrina sorry your so depressed! This DZ is terrible. I understand why your depressed. Didn't you say in an earlier post that remicade worked for you. Maybe you can try it again before your insurance runs out. I know they have some kind of assistance.

I had depression spells, but I always remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I wouldn't be strong today without what I went through!! I experienced death and back to health, trying different things until I found what worked for me. I remember one time after experiencing my lowest when I was thinking I hope I don't have to get this sick to die again because I thought I did when I saw a bright light in the ER. I barely have UC now...I know you are probably young too because you are making decisions about kids, but everyone told me (except GIs) that I would probably grow out of UC and I did...13 years later at 28, have a flare once every few years if I do something to trigger one. I have NEVER thought of it as a permanent disability, and I think your mentality has a ton to do with this disease so if at all possible do something different, go to the bookstore and read a book about healing, whatever you think will make you develop a fighter attitude.

Remicade has a PAP program as well.

You should definitely go speak to a professional while you're insured. I know how terrible it is having this disease and having pred in your system can cause all sorts of emotional ups and downs. It's debilitating. I had to take an antidepressant when I was trying to get off pred and struggling with a relentless flare-up. I felt so hopeless but things turned eventually and now I've been in remission for over a year.

andrea, i'm sorry you are so down. i actually wanted to tell you about something i came across again. it's about taking bupropion (wellbutrin) for crohn's. there's a thread right now on the crohn's forum about it. anyway, i first learned about it a year ago when my friend with UC got remission from bupropion. since it's also a depression med (i'm not saying you need one at all), it might help with that aspect of your life. i just figured i'd mention it since it's a very cheap prescription- comes in generic bupropion and is a TNF inhibitor. it doesn't have all the same side effects as remicade and humira and i know you've tried them anyways.

i know i'm starting humira soon but now i'm wondering if i should try bupropion first. i haven't talked to anyone who's had the typical TNF side effects from it like rashes, bad headaches, you know.

ahah somedude, my GI has been begging me to get surgery and i'm like "no, i will try everything possible before that!" it's good that there's always another drug/treatment to try though, even if it ends up not working.

I've been on bupropion (wellbutrin) for almost 2 weeks now. I had no idea it had been used in Crohn's (off to google). I'm still in this miserable, never ending flare so I don't think it is working. I am on it for depression. Recently switched from Lexapro.
