Does anyone know why for years I could tolerate Salofalk suppositories so well for years but oral MEZAVANT is unbearable for me. Side effects! I thought they were made up of the same thing.
thanks

I think the suppositories are mostly topical. It's probably not uncommon to tolerate the rectal and not the oral but i've seen people here who can't tolerate either. Can you try going back to the rectals?

I want to try. My gastro is on holidays until the middle of Jan. I am on prednisone for the first time. Is it normal to feel really bloated with a hard stomach on the pred.?

ALL the 5ASA meds...oral or rectal...are "topical". Whatever is absorbed through the colon wall and eventually into the bloodstream is very small.
It could be that you're on a higher dosage of mezavant?
What are the side effects that you get from the mezavant?

I am betting excruciating gas pain, more trips to the toilet but not diarrhea , jut lots and lots of blood and gas. Then I get the chills. Plus pain high up in my chest area. This is the first unbearable flareup I have ever had. I hope the pred starts to work better soon. Both my doctors are away. This site and forum has been a godsend to me as I am clueless about
it all
Thank you to all of you!!
