linda, haha i know! gaining weight is so hard for me when i'm flaring. my diet right now is very high fat- around 50%. i think i'd explode if i eat any more fat haha

my mom wants to be home to see how to do the shots and the only day she could next week was thursday. i'm fine with it. my only bad symptom right now is cramping with bm's. my frequency is still 3-5x a day with a little urgency. not much blood anymore. the main reason i'm taking humira is for my anemia. if humira can correct my malabsorption, then i'll be able to get my inflammation down and gain weight.

thanks, girls! i'm hoping since humira is a human protein instead of a mouse protein (remicade) that it will work better for me. remicade stopped working so quickly, but at least it gave me a few months of freedom!

My Humira update is that my stupid insurance company won't cover it, apparently it is not a "preferred" drug/treatment/whatever. So, even though there is conflicting info about what percentage I will have to pay for Remicade, I'm going to roll the dice and try it, fingers crossed I don't get surprised by some HUGE bill. My first infusion is Tuesday. Still, unless it kicks in RIGHT away, I'm worried about how sick I am and how much longer I can go on like this. Hope everyone is feeling good!

The best I feel is the day before my shot, which is today and my shot is tomorrow. This happened last month too. I'm still bleeding and a lot the last couple days so maybe the medicine is low in my system.

UCwhat, I can't believe they won't cover the Humira, so ridiculous! Are you in the US? In Ireland, its part of my monthyl prescription and you only ever pay €144 a month - thats the max anyone pays for their monthly meds! Thats the last thing you need! Hopefully the Remicade works - both Rem and Hum seem to be as effective as each other! Lemonhead, thats great Humira is really working so fast for you! Are you on pred or anything else? Were your symptoms bad before starting Humira? I still don't feel any different 4 weeks in but I'm guessing thats because I'm on pred?! It'll be interesting to see when I finish pred next week! Fingers-crossed!

Friday was my third dose of Humira. So far I have yet to see any improvement. I do get a killer headache day after my injection so hoping we can find something to manage that.

Today is my last day at 10mg of pred. So, it could be partially that. My symptoms before were going about 8-15 times a day, blood and urgency. Stools were never formed.
Started on 30mg of pred for 7 days tapering 5 mg a week until Humira was approved. I think he was using it as a bridge until the Humira kicked in. Today was not as good as yesterday. But I am still hopeful. I am much better than I was before. Even on the 30 mg of pred I was still not having formed stools and crazy urgency. So, that is better at least.
UCwhat? can you appeal that decision? Who is your insurance company?

cbjonice-I'm right behind you, my third will be tomorrow and I'm doing it in my leg and taking the fricken pain. The best part is it's only one shot! Yippy!

oh yea my nurse said take a half of benedryl when I do the shot maybe that will stop the side effects? I said but I'm tired the whole two weeks not just when I get the shot, so what does that mean, I wonder??? She was whispering it seemed like, like she didn't want anyone to hear, it was wierd.

Minners~ Yes, I am in the US, sounds like you get a pretty nice deal over there. I have also been on Pred for a month between 40 and 60 mg/day and it has really done nothing at all for me.

Lemonhead~ They did say my doctor could appeal the decision, but didn't give him the impression it would matter much, and it could take up to several weeks and I can NOT wait that long. My insurance is United Health Care. I'm going to roll the dice and try Remicade and hope I don't get surprised with a HUGE bill. I just can't wait....I have lost an INSANE amount of weight, when I didn't have any to lose to begin with....have not been hungry at all in about a month and a half, get up to go 4-7 times every single night....meaning I have not slept much in over a month. It is all taking a huge toll and I'm not sure how I'm functioning at this point.

Wow when I was that bad with the night time etc I had to go into A&E. They put me on Hydrocortisone IV. How are you even functioning?! Has pred done nothing to relieve your symptoms - even at 60mg? Hopefully the Remicade hits it hard! Have they got you on Imuran or 6MP too? When can you start Rem?

Minners~ I have NO idea how I am functioning either, and am about to the point that I wish they would put me in the hospital....now THAT is bad! Pred has done nothing for me and this is the first time I've been on it. The doc thinks my UC is steriod refractory and at the very best the Pred might be keeping me from getting worse. I am not on Imuran/6MP or anything like that....GI felt my inflammation was bad enough to go right to Biologics and then maybe try something else for maintenance eventually once everything is under control....or just stay on biologics...UGH. I have my first Remicade infusion tomorrow, but there is confusion as to how much of it insurance will cover....so if the bill is too high, it will be my only infusion and then I figure out what comes next?? Pray for me!!

ucwhat, I will say a pray too. It's tough. I hope you do exceptionally well tomorrow! Listen if you do get a huge bill remember they take payments and that's what I do on my insurance bills from the doctors. Don't stress about the bills, just try to get something that works for you.

Thanks for the prayers! And yes, I know they take payments....but the infusions are too frequent for me to rack up bills that are thousands of dollars each time for a drug that MIGHT work that I might need for a very long time. I just don't have or make that kind of money....at all.

Miracles~ No, I have not tried Imuran or anything like it. GI felt my inflammation had spread so much so quickly and gotten severe to the point that jumping to Humira/Remicade was the best choice for me at this point. I don't know if that's the right choice, but I just need SOMETHING done FAST and sadly don't have the luxury of time to get second opinions.

I really hope this works for you! I really hope they find a cure or more effective treatment for this within the next 10 years uhh!! I don't think Imuran would work for you on its own when you're this bad but I'm surprised they haven't put you in it as well as doing the Remicade!
