how to lose the prednisone weight

Now that I'm a month out from quitting the prednisone, I have gained 7-8 pounds and I'm having a hard time getting rid of them, even when I severely reduce calories to around 1200 / day. I've started going to spin class again, taking the stairs, drinking more water...nothing. I'm stuck.

Any good advice to get rid of this? I'm only 5' tall and those 7-8 pounds are a big deal at my height!

Just keep doing what your doing. Moving around is key and of course cutting down calories. Just don't cut down too much because then your body tries to conserve the fat it has and you won't continue losing.

It just takes time, don't be too hard on yourself. 7-8 lb may seem like a lot but remember how lucky you are to be in remission now and off of prednisone.

I would try to eat as close to zero salt as you can.

there's no secret way to losing weight. just keep eating healthy and exercising but not overexercising. i've noticed exercising too much will just make you hungrier and you'll eat more.

I never thought that the moon face and belly would ever leave but it eventually did by it's own. It takes the body a long time to normalize all the extra junk prednisone does to it. Took me 6-8 months to officially sat it went away.

Thank you everyone, it sounds like I just have to be patient! I'm going back to Shakeology for lunch, so hopefully that moves things along and prevents any possible portion control or lack of protein issues for me (I like to just have soup for lunch - not much in it when I get veggie / tomato based!).

I'm also super stressed with tons of life changing things coming up...a big interview with an amazing company, tearing down/rebuilding our detached garage, and my horse has her big "is she better" exam on Jan. 28th to see if she can come back to work. So that can't be helping.

I am in the same boat...down to 15 mg of prednisone...was up to 60mg in November. I only gained 2 lbs for the first 6 weeks, then bam, 10 lbs in 2 days. The water retention is very bad. I look horrible, and I was overweight to begin with. My moon face is scary and I am seriously embarrassed to go out in public. I should be off this stuff in 3 weeks. I am exercising but I am SO hungry. Also, are you ridiculously tired? It's 7:30 pm and I'm in bed in my pjs!
Granted, I've been up since 6am and running around like crazy today. The good news is that my symptoms are better...the Imuran appears to be working finally!

I just think it's weird that I did not have any problem really with the weight or moon face until I hit the 6 week mark. I am so bummed and sick of the side effects but obviously, I have to finish the course. I wish you luck!

I'm inthe same boat. Been on Pred for over a year with no real issue until I tapered to about 20 mgs. I gained 10 pounds, Moonface, any really really tired. Since the time changed for daylight savings time, it seems that as soon as we finish dinner I am ready for bed.

I guess after going a year living off 4 hours sleep nightly thanks to Pred, my body wants to make up for all the lost sleep now that I am down to 2.5 mg.

I'm in the same boat. When I was flaring badly I dropped to 132 lbs. Been on Pred for several months and this is my second taper. I am up to 165 lbs. Need to be at about 150. I am down to 2.5 mg Pred though so I am happy. Should be off is next week. Hope my face and belly go back to normal size. I will be resuming my running next week also sothat should help

I had the same problem and I lost most of the weight by hiking and reducing food intake. The problem is the last 10 or 15 pounds. I think you will have luck if you keep eating healthy and staying active. Good luck!

sometimes you just have to "wet" it out - or "weight" it out !
