Seems obvious to me, the cure offered by the immune system is worse than the infection. Regardless of what triggers the immune system flare-up, stopping it is all that matters.
One either is able to stop the trigger ( food choice etc ) or must directly stop the immune reaction via prednisone etc.
Look at Anaphylactic allergic shock:
Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death.
Clearly the immune systems 'cure' for the allergen is worse than halting and allowing the allergen to co-exist with your body.
