I have been on 30mg of pred for one week now for my mild proctitis flare. Got one more week of 30mg then have to taper by 5mg every 5 days. Day 9 and i am still seeing blood and am going about 6 times in the space of 2 hours on a morning.

How long does it take on average for most people not to see blood. Getting quite worried. Blood not with every bm but usually with the 1st or 2nd.

I have been on pred before but can't remember but i do know that it had to be increased again.

Luckily I don't seem to have any side effects this time.

Would love to know how it worked for others with proctitis.

Also have been reading with great interest about cherries. So much that i thought i would give them a go. Will keep you posted.

I, too, have proctitis. I started pred at 40mg and the blood/cramps/etc. reduced significantly in a couple of days on pred. I remember people saying pred loses its effect after a while, I hope that is not the case for you.

I've been without pred for several weeks and the symptoms are back :(

I've asked my GI for more pred, so I'm starting pred again soon. Too bad he only wants me to be on it for 2 weeks like the previous pred course. I wonder why he doesn't give me more time to taper it. I'm starting at 40 mg again.

Sometimes the blood doesn't ever completely go away, and that is not a terrible thing. Your body can handle it. How are you feeling?

     I suffered with UP for twelve years before surgery.  Unfortunately, in my case, I became prednisone dependent and each time I went on it the dose became higher and the term longer rolleyes .

     I suggest you ask about rectal meds.   They didn't help me much, but others have wonderful results.  Worth a try.

Usually goes away pretty fast for me. Now its slower though (

Have you asked your GI about adding rectal medications? Sometimes topicals work really well for treating the rectum.

I have been using asacol supps and then predfoam but I started to get worse. Thats why the doc put me on pred. cry cry

Your doc is tapering you at an insanely fast rate. You shouldnt be tapering so fast that you reflare, and if you need something like imuran/6MP to kick in or even biologlics, it may need months for that to kick in.

I don't think predfoam is too useful. What is the dose of that? I've used Cortifoam which is a higher dose, maybe you can try that or cortisone enemas. Ask your GI.

I think you should be seeing results by now. I would talk to your doc about upping your pred until the blood abates. I went on 40mg in November for a bad UP flare. No luck. Upped it to 60 mg for 4 days and got results. I've been tapering ever since and am down to 7.5mg. I also started Imuran in early December, so I'm hoping that's kicking in as I wean off the pred.
