I have been back on lialda since August 2012 and my hair loss is becoming unbearable.  It is so thin on the sides - I have bald spots that almost look like alopocia.  This happens every time I have been on asacol or lialda and when I go off them the hair loss stops and it grows back. It has also changed the texture to be very dry and frizzy and extremelly tangled.

Has anyone found anything to help this.  I have read about biotin and may try that, but I'm getting desperate and looking for more help.

I've tried bioin and b vitamins w/ no luck. I was recently in a methotrexate trial and this was by far the worst my hair has fallen out. And that is after 8 years of UC, remicade, humira, etc.

Would love to hear what others are doing too! I had my hair gal chop it shoulder length and it seems to not be falling out as much since I stopped the mtx.

Can you do sulfazine instead of mesalamine? I don't think there is an answer to your question unless you get off mesalamines completely.

I take Biotin and I swear by it. However, I noticed that if I take anything less than 5mgs (or 5,000mcgs) then it doesn't work.

     Try Nioxin shampoo and conditioners.  Your hairdresser should have them in her shop.

Hi Soreguts,
I got sick and was asocol and lost 2/3rds of my hair. It all came back when I got well and reduced the asacol. However, it came back twice as think when I went gluten free. Just saying...
