in the hospital with c.diff

well, the past 4 days have been hell. just lots of bloody diarrhea, fever, nausea, no appetite, cramping. i haven't felt like this in a while (about 7 months) so i knew something was up. it didn't feel like any UC flare i've had. i ended up going to the ER around 3:30 am and it turns out i have c.diff. i asked the doctor if he'd do a fecal transplant but he said he only does them in extreme cases... so it looks like i'll be getting flagyl or vancomycin. i really didn't want an antibiotic since my UC wasn't very bad, but i don't really have a choice right now. my mom agreed that if the flagyl doesn't help the c.diff, she'd let me do fecal transplant again. i'm just worried about the flagyl totally killing all my hard work... but i'm glad to know what's wrong. i just couldn't believe my UC would get dramatically worse so quickly.

i think i can blame it on the raw goat's milk i had 5 days ago. the symptoms came on immediately after this. so warning to all raw animal food eaters- it's not worth the risk!

also, the doctor has had me on all clear liquids and the snack lady just brought me pork chops with biscuits and gravy. oh hospitals.

That sucks!! I know it's not really a silver lining but at least you know what the problem is and it's treatable. Hopefully you'll be back on track soon. An FT following the abx might not be a bad idea. Fell better soon!

Anyone with digestive issues that have progressed to UC or Crohns should stay away from raw dairy of all sorts. Especially anyone whose immune system is repressed in anyway. It makes me cringe when folks get all weston pricey and push raw dairy as a cure. This is a diversion, not saying you were.. just from a microbiology standpoint and a gut lining standpoint it makes no sense.. For folks with such impaired gut mucosa they should never ever ever eat it. At this point you have to deal with the c. diff.. you can take the heavy hitting probiotics as you heal and all your hard work will help them establish quickly

It's so easy to pick up c.diff, and maybe it could have been from the raw goat's milk. Can you check that out?


It's good you went to the hospital and now on antibiotics to deal with the c.diff.

Sorry to hear your in the hospital. I am too. No one can figure out what is wrong with me. I have severe abdominal pain and a high white cell count. I have been on tons of antibiotics but still nothing's. I ope they get you fixed quickly.

Tough break. C.diff is EVERYWHERE in the hospital unless they use bleach.

Welcome to the club, day 6 of Flagyl for Giardia myself, tomorrow is the last full day. I take it at 4:00 when the pred wont allow sleep and at 4:00 pm and sleep on sofa at office or home for an hour, it really knocks me out.

Blood stopped, I am down to 30 mg pred from 40 in just a week so it seems to be doing the job I just hope it does not come back.

Taking pred across the day for lower dose seems to be working too - able to lift but terribly anemic and Dr said no to iron infusion so heading upstairs to eat a steak :)

Poor thing. I hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe you will be 100% after you treat the c diff, that would be great!

Bummer that you can't get FT in a medical setting since it is known to work for C. difficile. I asked my GI some time back about doing FT and she said the facility she uses will only allow it for C. diff. (not me IOW) and then only after it is refractory, meaning abx does not cure it after several tries.

HI! What will Florastor do? Is it the probiotic you're talking about? I've had it in the past and guess what? I just ordered it overnight rush to me today, because I heard it's good for C-Diff. I'm waiting for my stool cultures to come back, probably on Monday. But Man the diareeah is a lot for me. I get like cramp waves for a hour and then boom a ton of liquid! Yellow too and I heard that's C-Diff? I don't know?? I'm also taking critical care from Renew life and ordered the max critical care which is like 200billion of probiotics. I need some shift in my gut for the better. Seriously I don't go out much anymore :(

I realized my multi, which I love, Rainbow Light is giving me acid reflux or major burn in my esphogus and I think I have to stop that. I stopped that and colozal at the same time because of the reflux but I need to be on something, the 5-asa help a little but they also make me jittery and tense and easy accidents so it's a toss up less blood and deal with the other issues or more blood and less nervous issues?

Anyways Joanna, I'm praying for you girl! You can make it, you can make it, GOD will pull you through and you WILL make it. Hang in there my friend! Plus when that Humira gets out of the system too, you'll feel much much better! Hugs!
