Im set to get a food allergy test. Apparently it's a new test according to my doctor. Has anyone done this, and has it been useful?

Dont know other than that its "new" according to my Drs office... But theyre pretty retarded, granted. I guess ill know more when its done. I assume its a blood test. But either way, any food allergy test is a food allergy test....

Yep, I've done the test and it was pointless. At least in my case it was. It showed no food allergy even though I had them test me for strawberries and hazel nuts as a control - I have a positive reaction (hives) with strawberries and hazel nuts. It came out negative for these two things. The blood test is highly unreliable to determine food allergies and I always tell people just to listen to their bodies.

But it wouldn't hurt to try. Who knows, maybe they do have a new more reliable test out there. Good luck :)

I would grill your doc on what a "new" test is. Don't let him get away with such a vague description.

      I had a food allergy test way back in the days following my initial diagnosis in 1998.  I thought they were around longer than that, unless this is something new idea .

My experience has been identical to Red34's- things that I react to (Delayed sensitivity- I have no immediate reactions to foods, other than lactose, which also didn't test positive on tests) test negative, while I test positive to things that give me no issues whatsoever. These tests have been completely worthless to me. Though I lost the link, I once had a study that indicated that a consumer tester's undercover split samples of the same person's blood came up with different results even from the same lab. I honestly think these tests are scams.

freddy, some tests do absolutely nothing for me. I've done four different types of 'food' related tests including the celiac blood test, blood-prick for outdoor allergens and food allergen panel, a stool test and a saliva test.

The saliva test showed significance to gluten intolerance. While the blood prick test showed results for outdoor allergens, and all others came back negative for whatever else.

It really depends, let us know what test you do and for what.!

I took it today, it was a blood draw for food allergies. Guess we'll see.
