antibiotics and supplements

is it a waste to take supplements while on antibiotics? will the antibiotics just cancel out any positive effect of the supplement? i forgot to ask my doctors about this when i was at the hospital. obviously, i take a ton of supplements but not sure if i should while i'm on the vancomycin. i take the vanco 4x a day so it's always in my system.

Well, for me I have had a few (3) vey long courses of antibiotics. The longest course being 6 months...

The first and second time I didn't do or take anything- and I had a lot of eventual side effects that lingered around for months after. I found they really effected me emotionally and such as well, as they were combined with Prednisone for long periods.

The third time I did SCD and decent foods (minimal junky stuff and sweets) along with vitamin d and I forget now what else aside from lots and lots of home made SCD 24hour yogurt for probiotics. I found they helped reduce the side effects a lot. Especially the probiotics.

I'd say stick to your vsl3 and whatever other probiotics you can for sure. There's tons of stuff on the positive of probiotics and c-diff.

As for anything else I'd say take to your doctor first to make sure they aren't inferring with anything, but I would think they all should be fine.

Antibiotics would probably cancel the effectiveness of probiotics, right?  There is a Renew Life probiotic that has like 80 billion on the label that someone told me you should take after taking antibiotics to re-populate.  Mary

I would suggest you continue takng probiotics, and double up on them, but make sure they are taken 3-4 hours apart from the antibiotics.

I have been able to double up on probiotics while taking antibiotics and it helped immensley. In most cases I don't see where antibiotics would effect most supplements at all, other than probiotics.
