I hear about remicade almost every time I talk to a doctor or forum and how well it has worked for many.. I've also been recommended by people and certain doctors to consider it if the prednisone isn't getting me into remission which it seems to have a hard time doing right now.. Anyone on remicade? Is it worth trying and has your life improved after getting on this drug? What side effects are there to worry about that seem most common? Thank you for your responses..

Been taking it for almost 2 years and it put me in remission within around 2 months. That remission has continued so far. Had I not taken it I would have lost my colon...
The only side effect that I have is fatigue for a few of days after each infusion. My Gastro is trying to figure out why the fatigue lasts so long.

What is the typical process of getting remicade done? how often do you go and what's the procedure? Sorry for the questions just trying to get a grasp from someone who is on it

It is given intravenously over the course of around 3 hours. It starts with loading doses - a first dose, two weeks later the next dose and then 4 weeks after that another dose. Following that, the normal procedure is to receive it once every 8 weeks.

And other then the dosages do you have to take any other pills to maintain it the colitis? Or to maintain the effects of the remicade?

I take 1.5g Rafasal, a 5ASA twice daily. Some people taken Imuran at the same time to minimise the chances of building antibodies to the Remicade. I was unable to metabolise Imuran and it caused my white blood cell count to drop dangerously low so I was taken off it.
There's no way of knowing whether the 5ASA pills are helping, but I'm not risking stopping them.
