Ulcerative colitis

Hi, I am just new to this page and was finding some of the comments very helpful so I thought I would express my concerns and see if anyone can relate to my problem or give me some advice.. My partner was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 5 yrs ago, he is on mezavent and priobiotic powders everyday.. He has had a few flare ups in the past 5 years but is currently having a really hard time.. For the last few weeks he has been feeling very bloated, sore in the middle of stomach, severe cramps, foul wind , sore when having bowel movement, no diarrhoea (strange cause when bad before diarrhoea was severe) very sore after eating and very shivery like fever!!! We have been to our a&e 3 times in the last 2 week as the cramps were so bad he was passing out.. They kept saying it is a flare up and give him buscopan, paracetamol and gaviscon, which have not worked .. Unfortunately his actual consultant was on leave and can not see him till wed this week but I'm not sure he can take much more.. When he was first diagnosed 5 years ago they admitted him and give him predinsolone and some other medicine I'm cant remember name off.. Does anyone else relate to these symptoms or any ideas maybe wot else could be wrong with him.. I would be really grateful for any suggestions as I am very worried cause he is a very active 30 year old who is now feeling miserable and just wants to sleep..

One suggestion would be to try eliminating foods that are commonly thought of as irritants such as lactose, gluten (breads, pasta, etc) and sugar. Another would be to avoid non-soluable fiber that tends to irritate the digestive tract.

You can keep a food journal to record the results of eliminating foods if you see improvement. You can also record instances where foods seem to set off the symptoms.

Has he changed his diet a lot in the last few weeks?
Has he been under a lot of stress?

I take slippery elm powder every night before bed to soothe the digestive tract.
