Has anyone used high-dose mesalamine long term?

I have been on Lialda 4.8g once a day and Canasa 1000mg once or twice a day since 2007. I have flared even though I am very faithful about taking meds. However I will take these meds for the rest of my life. I don't want to know what will happen to my body without them. Also anecdotal evidence on this website shows that with each flare it take more and more and stronger and stronger meds to get in remission after stopping meds that had been working.

I have been on a maintenance dose of Asocol for 34 years and in remission with the odd minor flare up (maybe about 6 or7 over 34 yrs. that only last a couple of weeks)
