Tapering off pred

Is your GI not going to put you on a maintenance med? If you don't replace the prednisone with something then symptoms will return when you taper. I saw you had problems with Asacol. Do they think you will have trouble with all mesaliamines ?

In my opinion before you start tapering he should already have you on another drug because those other drugs take a long time to work sometimes. He might be holding off because off the adverse affect you had in the hospital but if you do not put something in place before tapering the prednisone then in my experience it will get worse again.

Your doctor doesn't seem to have a gameplan at all. I guess he was thinking the pred was going to put you into remission, taper off, and live happily ever after. He should have known better that that was not going to happen. Pred doesn't even seem to be working very well on you because at 60mgs it should have stopped UC in it's tracks, after which tapering down and not on anything else you would have flared again, almost for sure. Unfortunately, you didn't even make it to that point. Most people get down to a lot lower doses before their symptoms return. My doctor doesn't even talk about pred because he knows it only works while taking it and not afterwards. Your doctor 100% should have had you doing something in addition to the pred so that when you were tapered off the pred, hopefully the other thing would keep you in remission. You are going to find out in April that you are going to be back to square one with your doctor upping your pred back to 60 and then adding something else. He should have already done this so that you didn't have to go back to square one all over again.
