stool testing?

I was diagnosed with proctitis 9 years ago via scope and biopsy. Biopsy sheet recommended stool testing to confirm, Gi never did that. Just a year ago had my first colonoscopy which came clear as did biopsy. Asked new gi that the first one never did a stool test,and she said she wouldn't ask or recommend one either. My only symptom is bleeding,do not suffer from dearrhea. Did everyone here have a stool test,or it's just not done for everyone.

OMG.. what do you mean they have never done a stool test on you.

My head wants to explode lately.

Have you seriously never had the displeasure of having to poop in a collection container and then have to put it in little vials? ;)

incompetent doctors imo for sure. ruling out parasites and cdiff is textbook. and yes, i hate doing the samples but you gotta do what you gotta do

that is strange. i can even count the amount of stool tests i''ve given since i was 16. easily over 50. my doctors always want to see my poop and look up my butt.

so it's common practice?

I think I just keep getting idiots. The 1st one never asked,the second one said she wouldn't ask for one either,said it's not necessary ,especially since I don't have dearrhea.

I did one because I was in a clinical trial. My doctor has never requested one. I don't see any harm in having a stool test.

Yes, it should be one of the very first things that is done in a GI workup. It should also be done again if your symptoms arent significantly improved. It takes an AVERAGE of 3 times to find the easy bugs and up to 7-10 on average to find the more stealthy ones.

Agreed a stool test should be basic before they moveon to other things...... However (big however) most of the common stool testing is essentially worthless. I am proof- I tried no less than three different types of worm therapies for my UC (none got me in remission, and some gave me nasty side effects but that is off topic.) I had stool tests given me by hospitals, a functional test by metamatrix by my naturopath that happened to include parasite screening, and I even rx'd myself some online stool tests. None picked up any of my helminths or helminth eggs- only endoscopy , and some stool microscopy by one of my worm providers, was able to confirm the parasites. (In one colonoscopy I was awake and could even see them wiggling around on the mucosa). Thus, stool tests are highly unreliable and prone to false negatives.
