I had my flexible-sigmoidoscopy today and I wish it was better news. Today, he saw continuous, mild inflammation up the 60 cms he scoped. He is upping my 6MP from 50mg to 75mg. My weight is 129 pounds (58.5 KG) and 6mp should be prescribed in the 1-1.5 per KG range, so I'll be at 1.3 per KG (if my math is right). He said double the Prednisone to 30mg and stay there for 4 weeks (which is pretty discouraging I was hoping to be off of pred in several weeks as I had been tapering). He said he's going to do another flex-sig in 4 weeks and if there is no improvement from the increase in dosage then he is going to recommend I go on Remicade. He said I should ask my insurance company about Remicade beforehand. He said my uc has been difficult to treat but something has to work. I am certainly getting very discouraged.
In January, I had a flareup (which I am still fighting) and then he saw severe inflammation up 50cms+ which was as far as he scoped. He added pred and 6mp to my prescription then (before it was just rectal and oral meslamine). So there is some improvement since January less inflammation plus my symptoms are much better (from 12-20 bms a day in January to now 3-4 bms mostly in the morning). He said there is still too much inflammation.
Fun, fun, I am a little over a year into this disease and my dr is already discussing Remicade. Ugh.
