Thanks for the post somedude. Man, if I look at my posts over the years it's hilarious- I can go back 5, even 7 years and see myself posting that I am "about" to get surgery, but always managed to pull enough of a rabbit out of a hat to come up with some excuse to try something else for "just six more months" or whatever. Anyway, what a freaking lonely decision it is. Uceris failure to even give me controlled remission leading into surgery at least is giving me some peace of mind though and finally putting to rest my agonizing. Hey, somedude, werent you enrolled in the mcMaster's Univ. FMT trial?

Somedude... as someone who has surgery as an actual choice right now, I'm very appreciative of this video. I would gain so much extra time in my life if I came through successfully. This is an eye opener.

(I've met a guy in my support group with a pouch, but he didn't seem quite like this guy in the video.) This video is a great asset, and should be watched by any of us contemplating treatment options.

Thanks so much for posting that video. I am headed for surgery in 2 1/2 weeks and it is so great hearing the positive stories. I am done fighting this disease, but so scared for that next step. Good luck to you Prrobiotic! When is your day?

Just changed it... Who knows what I meant when I first wrote it. Should be "still not in remission."

There are many great success stories to be heard from people who choose to have a J Pouch...and many stories of marginal success and terrible failure.

There are many great success stories to be heard from people who instead chose to have and end ileostomy....and many stories of marginal success and terrible failure.

And many people choose to get no surgery at all, fighting the disease. Some are successful some are not at all and suffer for years.

The point is....how to deal with this disease is a very personal choice and there is no way to know if the one you make will be the "right" answer for you. There is no way to know which option would be the most successful for you. At some point you just have to go with your intuition and do what you feel is best, not be swayed by anyone elses opinions, fears or views.

And I DID choose to have an end ileostomy....I DO have a bag, and YES, I consider myself to be completely normal. Much more normal, happy and healthy that when I was suffering with UC.
