Life as a single 20 something

Hello to all the 20 somethings out there!
I am wondering how you all deal with our "hook up" culture and your UC.
Going out to bars, one night stands, etc.
Now that I'm finally feeling comfortable in my remission, I've started to give myself the freedom to go out and have more fun. But you guys know how much harder it is for us to fight off even basic colds... thanks crappy immune system!
Obviously, if a dude is coughing or sneezing, I'm not going to go near him. However, I've psyched myself out thinking about all the STDs I could catch and how bad it might be, that I haven't made moves. I know this is a different topic than the usual Humira v. Remicade debate, but I'm wondering what you all think and how you handle this. It would be awesome to get other perspectives.

I did once bring a guy home, then thought "screw it I don't reall care what you think" which lead to him asking if I was trying to overdose when I took my meds. hahaha, I also went through a phase of refusing to be walked home during a flare as I'd literally have to run incredibly fast the last 200m to my house.

If you're worried about STD's (which everybody should be) get a test so you know you're good, and use protection. obviously.

I go out, I drink, I dance, when I can be bothered I date, but I'm happily single atm. Sometimes health comes up in passing with any new friends, that funny story about the weird girl you met in hospital leads them to ask why you are there, and if you make it a big deal it will be, if you don't it wont be.

But generally, its perfectly the same as before I had anything. have fun

I personally would not bring home a one night stand (too many crazy people in this world we live in).

If you bring home one night stands, please remember to use protection. And if you drink, leave your car home and take a cab.

Coming across this post is actually funny because I was just thinking about this today!
I am going out on the town tomorrow for a friends birthday and was wondering how all the other 20-somethings with UC manage and deal with the situation, and especially with the hook-up culture. It is terribly frustrating sometimes to have this disease in your 20s!
The crappy immune system is the worst though, especially because bars are usually dirtier than most places and alcohol lowers the immune systems response even more.

I used to put my UC on the back burner in fear of "missing out" on things with my friends, so I probably pushed my body harder than I should have when I was first diagnosed, especially during flares. Now I just realize that everything in moderation is better. I usually just give myself a way to get home and an exit plan if I know i'm not feeling 100% that evening. But I go out with my friends and have fun whenever I can!

As far as guys though, I have never let my UC hold me back and have never had a problem. But the worst is if I am with a guy and my stomach starts to make the awful UC gurgling noises hahah.
