Is Ibuprofin ok?

I took one last night because the cramping was keeping me awake. I was actually surprised it worked. Is it ok to take this? The cramping is always there but worse at night and after I eat. just started 60 mg of Pred after a failed Uceris attempt.

No, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs are not OK for people with UC. They can cause GI bleeds and aggravate the symptoms of UC. For pain relief you can take Tylenol or talk to your GI about prescribing an opiate. For cramping an anti-spasmodic like Bentyl might be helpful too.

Nope! Haha, sorry. Believe me, I've been there and been totally frustrated too. Talk to your GI about pain management. Heating pads used to help me a lot.

I take it here and there when I am having painful cramps or a headache. I know we are not supposed to but I haven't had any trouble with using it very infrequently.

Tylonel will not help with intestinal cramping. It might take the edge off though. I use Bentyl to help alleviate my cramping...this is prescription you get from your GI.

But I agree with Pluot...absolutely no N-saids.

I have gone into a flare from three doses of Advil. I had a tooth that was killing me and it was Sunday. So I took Advil three times that day. Ended up having a root canal but I was far worse off with my gut. I suffered for months from that one day of pain.

Absolutely NO on ibuprofin.

Heating pad works well.

You could also try low dose xanax, which also seems to "quiet" the intestinal tract.

My doc made me promise to never take it. I had no problem to say no since I had a hysterectomy and no more periods since 1993 (it was the only med that helped the horrific cramping).

He allows me to take aspirin, however.

My GI gave me an anti-spasmotic, which seems to help.

Also, I have to take an anti-inflammatory right now for a foot injury that isn't responding to anything else, so I asked my internist which one she recommends, and she prescribed Lodine and said that it's easier on the intestinal tract. So far so good, but I'm also currently in remission (although anti-inflammatories have caused a flare in the past, so this probably is a relatively reliable indicator).

Agreed with Pluot! Tylenol was weaker than ibuprofen for me but it didn't aggravate my colon.
