Unfortunately, I find that there is so much misinformation, partial information, and extremely subjective accounts of the effects of various different treatments (including probiotics) that if you don't get into the nitty gritty of the studies it's easy to be taking something that has no demonstrable effect or may even have a negative effect.
I also think that a lot of the time, when people start taking something and only a couple days or weeks later attest to how great it is, they are really just experiencing a placebo effect. Or when they declare something worthless after little time, they have not really given it a chance. I'm more interested in how people are doing after months and years.
It does seem like there is a lot of discussion elsewhere of Lp299v and IBS. And, like Culturelle's Lactobacillus GG, it is also supposed to alter the secretion of cytokines that influence the inflammatory response. So it's curious to me that I don't see much mention of Lp299v with colitis.
