Azathiropine use and Shingles

Was wondering if anyone has heard anything about a connection between Azathiropine use and increased chance of shingles breakout.

Just thinking that if Azathiropine reduces you immune systems strength at keeping a virus at bay, seems that shingles would have a larger window of opportunity to emerge.

Well, you have to remember, Azathiroprine is very dose specific and part of the art of being a good GI doc is to tweak the dosage just right so your immune system is not really impaired very much.
It's obviously better to not have to take meds at all, but Azathiropine has been around so long, the safety profile is amazingly good.
I'd your doc the specific question about shingles and any other concerns before starting any new drug.

I take Imuran and like to be pretty well versed regarding side effects, therefore I can inform you that unless you are around others with shingles you may have a greater chance of getting it becuase of the lowered immune system Imuran causes. But as for it being one of the side effects I'm pretty sure that's not one of them. Monitor your Imuran by getting blood work done often and you should be fine.
