Who's taking Pentasa?

My situation is that Asocal has been discontinued and express scripts recommended something else. I faxed it to my Doc and when I checked express scripts today, apparently I have Pentasa coming my way. At my doc visit last month he suggested Pantesa.

So, has anyone gone from something else, Asacol, etc., to Pentasa??

I just googled Pentasa and there are more side effects than Asocal.

Please tell me some good news about Pentasa.

Pentasa is the same medication as Asacol, it just breaks open higher up in the esophagus (at least that's my understanding from what my doctor said). I am on both Pentasa and Asacol HD because one treats the upper more and one treats the lower more. The only side effect I've had is one that is shared between the two meds and that is hair loss and head sores. other than that, I haven't had any problems.

...oh, just looked at one of my notes from the doctor. I had a Pentasa pill get stuck somewhere inside my digestive system when I first started it, but that was a freak thing.

It releases in the beginning of the ileum, not in the terminal ileum..
