Grabbing at straws

I think the greatest post on here was "what do you think caused your UC?" It's buried back a few pages but it's a good one.

Is it the water? Is it stress? Is it red meat? And on and on and on....

Such a tough thing to live with, believe me I know. And then there is the secondary subject of what do you think helps it?

Although I'm in a remission I don't think I'll ever get over the years and years of the bloody diarrhea trauma. The worries will never go away and I believe that is why I frequent these boards and just shake my head.

It's a truly sad thing to live with and I wish us all well.

Sounds like your feeling a bit down John.

I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago and I have still not been able to get properly back to health, started a couple of new jobs but always ended up back in a flair. Only managed to work about 10 weeks out of the last 3 years. Just started aza but no matter how difficult things get I always try to stay positive.

Recently I have been thinking a lot about the importance of treating the whole - that is not just focusing on one area like meds or diet but rather having an approach that takes into account all aspects of health.

This would include medication, understanding diet, stress management, exercise, relaxation, the mind/body connection etc. I know that one day I will return to good health especially if I focus all the important aspects of my life towards my goal.

This is an interesting story from a guy who has had significant success by focusing on constantly improving his well being in all areas. In short living a truly healthy life.

i hear ya about how bad this journey can be, but to be honest, the only time i think about it is when i'm feeling like shiitt -

when i'm feeling like i am these days, i don't even have time to think - i'm catching up on all the things i missed or couldn't do when i was sick !

Sorry my post sounded so down! LOL I actually didn't realize it.

You're right "ima" I need to let go of the past. Someone mentioned post traumatic stress, that's probably what it is. Meditation, prayer, good books help me so I'll try to stick with that. Thanks everyone.

I started seeing a therapist after my first surgery. He brought up the PTSD connection as well. I recommend talk therapy to everyone. Posting here can help but sometimes it's better to get external perspective from someone who can see beyond this darn disease.
