I have chronic Insomnia and manage it without medicine because that seems to cause flares.
Have you had a sleep study? I would try to find out the cause first and remedy it that way. I am a big backer of keeping a regular sleep time, get lots of excercise, not eating a few hours before going to bed. Make sure the bedroom is for sleeping no TVs, electronics or bills do your reading and activities in another room. Try to have an unwind period and even if you cannot sleep lying down is resting.
