Any reason to take 5ASAs?

Is there any reason to take 5 ASAs when the disease is only in your rectum?

??? of course!! rectal 5ASA and oral 5ASA to keep the rest of your colon nice and happy. Low dosage oral.

You should probably add more information and expand the question because it doesn't make sense to me as it is.

Take it to prevent the disease from spreading.

5-ASAs got me into remission when I was first diagnosed. That was huge. It lasted six months... There are a handful of things that could have caused the disease to overpower the success of the 5-ASA... I got sick, I was working overnight shifts, I mixed some medicines I probably shouldn't have...

I've heard they have a tendency to wear off, but I had such good success with them before my currently flare and hurdles associated (and I still have a large amount left over from my prescription) that I'm continuing to take them along side my others meds, just to see if it clicks again and it can give me that little extra push to get back to a more comfortable state.

I guess I should have said I'm on imuran and cortenema, just wondering why take Asa's when they usually dont even make it that far down, have never helped me maintain remission and I have never had UC outside of just my rectum area all these years

Your signature says you're on Rowasa--that's a 5-asa that's treating only your rectum.

You should definatley take them. Ur disese can and may spread and by not taking them you are more at risk. I didnt folliw my meds instructions in the eginning as my gi was rude and basicly refused to exain anything rather cfc when I asked questions circled the diagnoses and told me to read (ulcerative proctitis) oi was un enduacted and had no clue the seriousness. This led me to flare, heommorage and and up in hospital with a diagnoses of disese spread throughout and now being UC. My advice = be careful and take everything seriously
