Here's a tip for you, ask the doc to use numbing gel. It makes a world of difference! Good luck! Btw, are you just doing the Fleet enemas or a full prep?

I think they only do prep for the colonoscopy. They should give you a little something orally to take the edge off.

During my terrible flare, my GI only did Flex Sigs....mostly because he was concerned that a full scope could do damage to my horribly inflamed colon. He could see what he needed to from the Flex Sig alone, and didn't even go as far as he could with that, out of concern for my colon. I never had to do a prep for them, but found the first one SO horribly uncomfortable that I asked to be put under the next time I went in for one. Not having to do any prep was a nice bonus though!! I've had 3 flex-sigs so far this year each with 2 fleet enemas as prep. They only hurt if you are flaring badly like I was during the first flex sig I had this year (I was going 12-20 times a day with lots of blood) and that flex sig hurt like all hell. Otherwise, it is just a brief discomfort/pressure you feel for about 5 minutes -- no big deal.

I've never had one...looking forward to your post as to how it went and what the doc determined..

I have had a zillion flex sigs (okay not a zillion but a lot!). I have done the enema prep most of the time. Once I did no prep.

I have to be sedated. My inflammation is low and severe. I tried once w/out sedation and they had to stop. Which is a total pain b/c someone has to drive me.

Man I have to do magnesium citrate two dulcolax and a fleet enema for my sigmoids. I have had at least ten of them since 2007. Sometimes it is no enema and two mag cits. I do get put to sleep. I cannot imagine doing one awake. Although one time I was awake for part of it because the anestiologist thought I had sleep apnea even though I told them I did not. So he gave me less knock out meds. But I was still relaxed enough not to care and I got to see the cool video.

Yeah the discomfort from the air they blow up your pipe stinks. After the procedure, I usually just sit on the toilet for a while and try in vain to get it out. The air does comes out eventually of it's own initiative, I just hope and pray it isn't on the drive home or something lol (as, you said it isn't just air that comes out sometimes). No pain during the procedure as it sounds you are pretty inflammed?
