My doctor tested for the mutations. I can take none of the credit. When I came into him telling him my symptoms (gut problems, joint and muscle pain and chronic fatigue are the main ones) he tested me for MTHFR, Lyme (not on my radar), chlamydia pneumonia, mycoplasma pneumonia, yersinia, Strep, HLAB27, Celiac Genes. Then we did a stool test too.
I came back positive for MTHFR, Lyme,Mycoplasma Pneumonia, strep and a saphrophytic yeast/mold/fungi overgrowth in my stool, high levels of non pathogenic E coli and low levels of gram positive benefical flora.
When I first went to him I as pretty sick. He thought I might have Lupus. (all those numbers are fine) and when my first set of tests came back with the lyme, myco and strep he said iv abx, most likely. I said, I NEVER RESPOND WELL TO THOSE. but ok.. I give. So he tested me for MTHFR, my CD-57 levels, and Interferon gamma levels... My mthfr genes have one bad copy each. so they are both working at a very reduced capacity. he said I cant detox.. so abx are not his first choice.. good news is that my CD-57 and interferon gamma (and all other numbers- crp, sed rate, yadda yadda) numbers looked good so my immune system wasnt completely dead it also wasnt in complete overdrive.
So he started me first on B-12 and L-methyltetrahydrofolate. 5000mcg methylcobalamin, 1000mcg L-Methyltetrahydrofolate, ramping up by 1000mcg of the L-Mthf each week to a max of 5000mcg (I take more after doing more research. That opened up my detox pathways and my immune system numbers just kept going up. We supported it all with a variety of antimicrobals. Anatamul is an antibiotic as is the OLE. Triphala is a blood purifier, digestive tonic, biofilm breaker, synergistic. Neem is a blood purifier. Im taking all this cause I know I have Lyme, Myco and Strep. Id guess that anyone with UC is going to have some dysbiosis.
What Id suggest to someone is to start very slow, one thing at a time.
Triphala first. 1 before every meal. If you are more toward constipated, try 3 at night too.
Then Olive leaf. you have to take alot of olive leaf and I believe if you start taking it you really need to be committed to 90 days. if you do a week and then stop the bad bugs are just gonna come back worse, just like a flare brought on by an abx. OBVIOUSLY if you are really reacting hard you should change some things, 1st, dose, 2nd, add mopper... Id start at 1000mg 30 minutes before Breakfast and dinner, if that goes well, bump to 1500 mg during those times and stay the course. Get something that is standardized to atleast 6% Oleuperin. I go back and forth on brands. If you dont like big pills, paradise herbs makes a good one, but you have to take a bunch of them... Amazon sells several brands that have atleast 6%.. read the reviews there or on iherb and just go with the one that speaks to you!
id do that for a couple weeks and then add in neem and anatumul if you were feeling ok. This stuff really can make you feel very sick, like you have a bad flu. Its best to go slow. Also, neem and anatumul might not be what *you* need.. you might need berberine, pau d arco and x or cryptolepsis.. it all depends kinda on what your root cause it. If you have no tests telling you that, you can tell me your symptoms and Ill try to point you to possible microbes. I might be totally offbase.. but you can research them and see if they resonate.
Im glad you are getting tested. Im supplementing my girls but think Im going to do the test through 23andme as well. I had debated on Amy Yasko's test.. but we arent on the spectrum. If we were Id be focusing on these pathways... krebs cycle and the methylation cycle. I think her program gets really complicated and alot of it is shooting in murky untested waters. I also like that you get so much data from 23andme.
