Did anyone else participate in this global event today? In my town, there were over a hundred people, conversing and educating the public about the dangers of GMOs. Over 40 countries and two hundred something cities participated today.

While some major news sources covered the event, i'm thinking Monsanto paid big money to not have their name slandered in the media.

seriously tho, i was just thinking yesterday - how did they get so freaking powerful ? i know some about them, but honestly, i'm afraid to know more - i have enough fear in my life already -

I did not even know that and did not notice anybody around town (but weather was crappy too).

how they got so powerful? They have so many friends in congress and thats all it takes. I watched a documentary on how even appointment of supreme court judges is controlled by them and hence, so many farmers were prosecuted for not using Monsanto seeds. It was really crazy. A neighbor plants Monsanto seeds. Thanks to wind, some of them land in neighbor's farm. Monsanto people check the farm without even letting the farmer know and he gets prosecuted for stealing the seeds...

I wish my financial situation would be little better, I would not have eaten any GMO. (When we were living in Europe, we explicitly excluded food material Made in USA from our diet.)

I heard of it but I didn't participate. I do not think anyone did here in Germany. But they get my spiritual support! Basically yes, Monsanto got powerful by effectively corrupting the government. The leaked diplomatic cables about the US using economic pressure to try to force European countries to accept GMOs are particularly darning.
