Catching a cold and Humira

I feel a cold coming my way (Dry throat, occasional coughing and an overall blah feeling). I am due for my second round of Humira injections this weekend.  If I am indeed sick, should I still go through the injections?

Normally if you are sick, docs will have you postpone injections but you should call your GI.

Not my GI. He had me go ahead with the shots. Turned out it was just a side effect of the shots....went away in a day or 2. Never got any worse. Hope it is the same for you. But like Red said-give your Gi a call.

My GI's nurse got back to me. She said unless I had a real bad cold (phlegm) and a fever I should be OK with the injections.

Not that I don't trust her, but I am going to call Humira's nurse support network too.

Humira will reduce your immune response but it won't totally destroy it. If you truly are sick and you take the injection your infection could be worse than it would normally be. Your GI might even ask that you go see your primary care (mine would) and get some antibiotics to buffer your immune system.

I would be more worried about fever though, if you don't have that....

Nope, no fever. Just a dry cough and throat.

i take remicade and firt two dose i took i had a cold and they gave it to me anyways. i guess as long as it is not an infection then you should be ok.
