I stopped eating because Imuran is making me nauseous. Ginger doesn't seem to help. I was prescribed Zofran but it has side effects like headaches and tiredness/dizziness. I don't really need that. If I was to take it will it increase my appetite? I already lost 8 pounds.

UC wise I'm doing pretty well my symptoms are gone and I hope it stays that way. That's why I would not like giving up Imuran but this nausea is a curse. Even at times when I'm not nauseous I'm not really eating because my stomach got used to being hungry and I don't really have appetite anymore.

Does your GI know that the nausea is this bad? Is it supposed to get better? Do you think you are developing pacreatitis? Imuran does not seem like a reasonable solution if it makes you so sick that you cannot eat.

My GI knows.

What are the symptoms of pacreatitis? I don't have any pain.

Edit: I read a little bit into pacreatitis. I don't have that.

I just want my appetite back. In the past I had times where I didn't eat for a week. Then I forced myself and was ok. Now I'm going towards the third week and I forced myself yesterday but I'm still not hungry today. Well I'm hungry but I get nauseous when I think about food or smell it.

All drugs have side effects. If your Dr. prescribed Zofran for the nausea, at least try it to see if you have any side effects. It will help the nausea. I take it and it really helps me a lot. Stay hydrated and slowly try eating again. If the medication doesn't help and you just can't eat anything or you start vomiting, then I would truly be concerned.

its the yeast.. sorry Im a broken record but.. I bet once you get the yeast beat down it will get better. Unfortunately it gets worse first as the yeast dies it releases alot of toxins. You could try taking activated charcoal away from meds and meals to sop some of them up.

Hey! I am so happy your UC has calmed down but I wish you could get the nausea to go away. I think some people just have adverse reactions to Imuran/6mp - I hope you're not one of them... Have you ever considered switching to 6mp? I would imagine you would have the same result but I can't think of any other options besides more meds to control the nausea. What has your GI recommended?

Yeast... yes I so want to get rid of it. All these anti-fungals I'm taking are not helping. I'm eating SCD yogurt everyday and the white stuff has been less. I hope it dies off soon.

6mp... yes I might just ask him that. My GI is happy I'm in remission and he wants me to stay on Imuran because he doesn't want to risk it. Understandable. If I was to switch would I have to increase my dosage again or just switch to the same amount I'm taking of Imuran? Do people tolerate 6mp better than Azathioprine?

Dont knock zofran until youve tried it. Its really helpful for nausea. Ive used it to help me eat during my flares where i was throwing up all the time.

Zofran, and B vitamins (in small amounts so you don't upset your gut) to kickstart your appetite.
Try nutritious liquids like protein/whey shakes (Dr mercola's whey is good as it doesn't have artificial sweetners) and add lots of good fats to your food like coconut fat. That way you get more calories per bite/sip.

Are you on too much Zofran? Mine is 4mg.
I take it when I feel queasy...not on a schedule per se.

I do not know whether you might have better luck with 6mp, that's a good question for your GI. I know before I started 6mp my GI gave me a blood test to see whether I could metabolize the medication. I think she decided on 6mp based on the results. You may have had the same test and that's why your GI decided on Imuran? It's worth asking but you're doing so well, it would be great if you could find some way of counteracting the nausea.

I did have some blood test but I don't know what he tested exactly. The nurse just came back and said that he thought I would do fine on Imuran.

I'm not sure about the Zofran Dosage at this moment because I'm at work and I have the Zofran at home.

Another thing bothers me: I'm not eating but I take a lot of meds. Imuran, Diflucan and Sleep aid. Will that not totally mess me up? I can't manage to take them apart I take them all to together shortly before I go to sleep.

Andrina, have you tried psyllium seed powder (organic). The seed not the husk. it is what helped me with my mucous.

I might have accidently bought the wrong one. What's the brand you're using? Is it pill form or powder?

Are you using any rectal meds? You should keep some on-hand for times when you have these types of ups and downs... Are you feeling okay other than the mucus? Maybe it's a fluke and it will go away. I've seen blood and mucus and it hasn't turned into anything major. Let's think positive.

Yes thankfully I do have enemas at home. Hydrocortisone and Mesalazine ones. I will try to get rid of it asap before it turns into something major.

I really don't feel like a flare in addition to the already existing problem not being able to eat. What's the point of suffering side effects when I don't have a sufficient effect.

Yesterday I forced myself to eat again and although I have no appetite I wasn't nauseous either.
