Taking Delzicol out of the capsules?

Has anyone been using Delzicol (the Asacol replacement) and removing the bulky outside capsule? Since the inside pill appears to be essentially and Asacol , and I am having trouble swallowing the larger capsule I am wondering whether

the outside serves any purpose or can be tossed out.

I thought of that too, those capsules are seriously sticky & tough to swallow. I don't see what the big deal is if you take the pill inside out, but..... maybe if you asked a pharmacist???

Yes there is someone here who is taking the capsule off... now who is it? Sara14 maybe?

I take the outside off every time. I put just the outside in my mouth and it is gone in a little over a minute so that told me it was not for time delay. Have had no problems since starting Delzicol.Thank God.
